The Mamoní Valley Preserve

The Mamoní Valley Preserve (MVP) is a 5,000-hectare (12,300-acre) land conservancy located in the Mamoní Valley—a mere two hours from Panama’s International Airport at Tocumen. It is a magical site, right along the Continental Divide, the narrowest point in the Americas.

The Mamoní Valley is set in one of the Western Hemisphere’s most critical stretches of rainforest: a keystone piece of the Choco-Tumbés-Magdalena ecoregion. It is within one of the world’s top 25 biodiversity hotspots, and it is host to a myriad species of plants and animals.

Since its creation in 2002, the Mamoní Valley Preserve has prevented more than 650,000 tons of CO2 emissions from deforestation and protected the invaluable biodiversity that inhabits it.

At Centro Mamoní, the science and research center, visiting scientists carry out exciting projects—from the reintroduction of endangered species, to the conservation of jaguars.
